Choosing a resin floor finish in Portsmouth

Flake: coloured vinyl flakes broadcast into the base coat and sealed under a clear UV-stable topcoat. Textured for grip and very forgiving of dust, grit and tyre marks.
Solid colour: two coats of high-build epoxy in one colour, as in the grey floor pictured at the top of this page. Clean and bright, and the easiest finish to keep looking new.
Metallic: pigmented metallic epoxy worked across the floor for a marbled, one-off surface, sealed with polyurethane or polyaspartic.
Self-smoothing: a 3–4mm poured epoxy that levels itself into a flat, glass-like floor. The right system for workshops and for older slabs that are pitted or out of level.

Sea air, salt and older concrete

A lot of Portsmouth garages sit close to the water or were built decades ago, so the slab is often damp, dusty or pitted. That is not a problem for a resin floor as long as the preparation is right. We diamond-grind the whole surface to expose clean concrete, fill cracks and salt pits, and where moisture is coming up through the slab we apply a moisture vapour barrier epoxy primer before the colour coats. The finished floor is seamless and resistant to road salt, oil, petrol and coolant.

How long a Portsmouth resin floor takes

A typical single or double garage takes two to three days on site: grinding and repairs on day one, base coat and flakes or metallic layer next, then the clear topcoat once that has cured. The floor takes foot traffic after 24 hours and cars after 5 days. Workshops, triple garages and commercial units are surveyed and quoted individually.
